Management Opportunities

This Weeks Vacancies
For more than half a century C&H have been committed to the very highest standards of customer service. It is hardly surprising, therefore, that today we are one of the Country's most respected retail specialists in top quality fashion and furnishing fabrics.

We place great emphasis on the traditional concept of customer care, but we also move with the times, as you can see from this web site. We have a young management team keen to expand the company into the market place of the next millenium.

As well as our products, we care a lot about people at C&H FABRICS. People as customers, and people as staff. The aims of the company state that C&H FABRICS exists to satisfy the needs of it's customers; to provide worthwhile and enjoyable employment for it's staff; and to......

  • Look after our customers
  • Promote our products
  • Work as a team
  • Eliminate unnecessary loss

All of which means that we can offer you a super opportunity to get in to a retail management career. You will find that you are quickly given lots of scope to take responsibility and show us what you can do. We have a first class management training program which will equip you with all you need to manage our products, and staff. Of course we will be expecting a lot of energy, enthusiasm, and application from you, plus self-confidence, an ability to learn quickly, and a desire to be a 'hands on' manager with considerable responsibility and authority. You could find yourself running a floor within 18 months of joining the company.

As a management trainee you will be aiming to become a Floor Manager, and subsequently, a Store Manager.

For us, both Floor and Store management operate on the shop floor, that is hands-on management. Of course there are some activities which are essentially conducted in an office environment, such as interviews, and confidential meetings, however, a large percentage of your management time in C&H is concerned with leading an operational team, and being on hand to direct and control your staff. Successful C&H management requires a high degree of product knowledge and management skills.

We provide structured training covering our products, policies, and systems and short course management skills training.

Basic systems and product training is carried out over the first 8 - 12 weeks, mainly on the shop floor. By the end of 6 months a graduate should be ready to provide relief cover, and perhaps operate as a Deputy Floor Manager.

Our graduate recruitment is aimed at providing Floor and Store Managers.

Floor Managers

Take responsibility for a complete sales floor within a store, a substantial job by any standards, with up to 7,000 sq. ft. of selling space, and 25 staff, with an annual turnover in excess of £1,000,000. The job requires management skills, a developed interest in the products, a flair with people, and good presentation and communication skills.

Store Managers

In addition to the requirements for Floor Managers, our Store Managers need drive and initiative to make the most of what is a highly independent rôle. The stores range in size from 7,000 to 20,000 sq. ft. and up to 70 staff, with an annual turnover now reaching the £15,000,000 mark. We find this job is equivalent to an Area Manager's rôle in many companies.

We hope you have found these introductory notes valuable, and there are further details of the Company on these web pages, please follow the links at the bottom of this page. We are interested in you provided that you are currently residing, or intend to reside in London, or The Southern Home Counties. From experience we have found it inappropriate to support relocation moves for management trainees.

To discuss the possibility of joining our management trainee scheme please write,
or e mail to The Personnel Manager, at our Head Office, enclosing your C.V. and tell us why you are interested in applying to C&H FABRICS, and where you plan to reside. Alternatively you can contact the Store Managers directly.
